Troubleshooting Guide
SIM not working? Don’t stress! Follow this guide to get you up and running
- Disable VPN and any secondary SIM/eSIM lines (for dual SIM phones)
- Turn phone off, remove the SIM, insert the SIM back and turn phone on
- Confirm mobile data is sourced from our SIM (i.e. the correct SIM profile is selected)
- Turn data roaming on (Android: select all network)
- Wait up to 10 minutes for activation to occur
- Set APN and network operator as automatic, adjust only if not working
6.1 APN: “cmhk” | Username: [blank] | Password: [blank] (Android: select manually)
6.2 Turn off automatic network selection and manually choose from the list below
- Restart your phone and/or turn on and off airplane mode

My first experience with Travelkon was fantastic ! I ordered a SIM card for China, which arrived promptly. I just landed in China today. The activation process was instantaneous, and I experienced a quick and reliable connection. I highly recommend Travelkon for a hassle-free travel experience.
2nd time I have used travelkon in China. Just put the Sim in when I land and turn the phone on and all the network services I am used to in Australia are there - google, google maps, translate, drive..... With no needs for a VPN and hence no issues with speed. These guys have done their homework so that we can just get one and get on with our travel experience. Will use again.
All good, efficient and delivery was right on time. Instructions given through email. Have not used it yet though, as going away next month. Hope everything work out fine.
SIM arrived as advised, Activation instructions were bit different in relation to my phone but once activation is done, it worked very well in China
The VPN seemed to work adequately.
I only needed some data to work Google Translate, Google Lens and Alipay, and a bit of Whatsapp, youtube and Fb browsing while on a 12 day tour of China.
In my research for a data only SIM for China, some other outfit had rave reviews, but the expiry periods were either too short or too long with pricing going exponential.
I decided to tryTravelKon's as it had more than enough expiry (1 month) and decent data amount choices. And the pricing was very reasonable.
I went with 5Gb. Apart from daily functional use, I also watched a full movie on Youtube and still managed to use up 2.5Gb by the end of the tour. For myself, 3Gb would have been more than plenty.
In terms of use -
You cannot get it easier that popping it in and switching on the Power ----- in China (not before)!!!! As per instructions.
I suspect people just change the SIM while in Australia and Power it on and that's where they stuff it.
Also for the SIM to work, you must have Roaming and Mobile Data flicked ON.
Extremely happy with TravelKon's SIM.
It's simple to use, great value and it works.
Speed was slow.
I know internet in China is not great, this was a Hong Kong sim card (not sure if this was a problem). Absolutely painfully worked in slow motion. Others had no problems with Optus or Telstra
