Choose your China 5G eSIM plan

This China 5G eSIM gives you a fixed high-speed data allowance for travel in China. Choose from 1GB to 100GB, with validity from 7 to 90 days. Every option is data only, supports hotspot sharing and has no daily usage limit.

The data allowance and validity are paired as shown below. After the included high-speed data is used, service continues at 128kbps for the rest of the plan’s validity.

Data, networks and app access

The eSIM is supplied through Singtel Singapore and connects in China through China Unicom or China Telecom. It supports 4G and 5G where available, although 5G is not guaranteed in every location or on every compatible device.

The plan includes automatic VPN routing for the eSIM data connection. TravelKon currently lists access to services such as Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and TikTok. Third-party app availability and local access conditions can change, so continuous access to a particular app or website cannot be guaranteed. The plan covers China only; Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are not listed as covered destinations.

Calls and SMS are not included. You can keep your usual SIM active for calls and messages if your phone supports dual SIM, but check your Australian carrier’s roaming charges before leaving that line switched on.

Set up and activate your China eSIM

  1. Install over reliable Wi-Fi. TravelKon emails the QR code after purchase. Add it to an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone that displays an EID.
  2. Keep the line off until you reach China. Leave the eSIM line and data roaming turned off before arrival. An installation attempted outside the coverage area may show a failed-activation message; the eSIM should connect when it reaches a supported network.
  3. Start the plan on a supported network. Validity begins at the first supported-network connection. The eSIM must be used within 180 days of purchase and does not require ID registration. Follow the eSIM setup guide before departure.
  4. Check the connection settings if needed. Assign mobile data to the TravelKon eSIM, turn on data roaming and wait up to 10 minutes. The manual APN is e-ideas; leave the username and password blank. Use the troubleshooting guides for the remaining checks.

This was the first time I used an eSIM. It was fantastic! The instructions were easy to use and within seconds of landing on the tarmac I switched on the eSIM and I had the internet.
