Complete List of eSIM Compatible Phones & Devices

Before installing a travel eSIM at the airport, check the phone you will actually take with you. This list covers eSIM-compatible phones and devices, but support can differ by model number, country of purchase and carrier. Start with the checks below, then compare your model with the manufacturer guidance.

Is My Phone eSIM Compatible?

Check your exact model, country of purchase and network-lock status before buying a travel eSIM. A model name alone is not enough, especially for an imported phone.

1. Check If Your Phone is Unlocked

Check whether your phone is locked to its original carrier. On an iPhone, look under Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock; “No SIM restrictions” means it is unlocked. For other phones, confirm the lock status with the carrier.

2. Watch Out for Phones from Other Countries

Be cautious with phones from other countries, also known as grey imports; they might not support eSIMs, even if they’re the same model sold in your country.

3. How to Check for eSIM Compatibility?

An EID identifies the embedded SIM hardware. Finding it is a useful compatibility check, but it does not confirm that every travel plan supports your phone. Check for an Add eSIM option as well, then read the chosen plan’s device restrictions.

  • Dial *#06# for EID:
    • Simply dial *#06# on your phone’s dialer app. If an EID number appears, it’s likely compatible with eSIMs.
  • Check Phone Settings
    • Navigate to your phone’s settings and look under “About Phone” or a similar section for any mention of EID.
  • You can also check your phone’s settings to see if you have an “Add eSIM” option

Before you choose an eSIM plan, check its supported devices and any carrier restrictions. If your phone cannot use the selected eSIM, compare travel SIM options that suit its SIM slot and network compatibility.

A compatible phone must also work with the selected travel plan. Keep your device software up to date and check the product description before purchase; eSIM hardware support does not guarantee support from every provider.

1. Apple

iPhone 15 Pro Max as one of eSIM compatible phones

Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later compatible models for eSIM. Regional versions matter: do not assume that a phone bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao has the same SIM options as an Australian model. Check the exact model against Apple’s eSIM requirements.

3. Google Pixel

Google’s compatibility guidance distinguishes newer Pixels from older carrier and regional variants. Your travel provider still needs to support the device.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I have multiple eSIMs in one device?

Many compatible phones can store several eSIM profiles, but storage capacity and the number of active lines are different limits. They vary by model, software and provider. See how many eSIMs you can store and use before planning a home-line and travel-eSIM setup.

Can I install an eSIM on multiple devices?

Do not assume one eSIM installation can be shared across several devices. Check the purchased plan’s installation rules. A hotspot may let you share data with another device if both the phone and plan permit tethering.

Can I switch eSIM between devices?

Transfer support depends on the eSIM plan and devices involved. Contact TravelKon before deleting an installed travel eSIM or trying its QR code on another phone. A phone’s built-in transfer feature does not guarantee that your plan can be moved. For a second device, check whether you need a separate plan or whether your existing plan and phone allow hotspot sharing.
