Thing’s to know

  • This eSIM’s provider is (IIJ Docomo)
  • Manual Access Point Names (APN) entry may be required “vmobile.jp“, if you are not tech savvy we recommend getting our other Japan eSIM which has automatic APN.
  • Compatible with unlocked eSIM-compatible mobile phones only – See the table below
  • eSIM plan will activate when you scan the QR code – please DO NOT scan the QR code if you do not want to activate the plan – no refunds will be provided once you scan the QR code
  • If you add the eSIM in Australia your phone may say “activation failed” or “could not activate” this is normal, the eSIM will activate when you reach Japan (but the plan will start immediately).
  • eSIM must be used within 90 days of purchase to avoid expiration
  • Please ensure you check the network operator coverage in your intended travel areas, we are not responsible for lack of coverage and do not provide refunds in such cases.

Troubleshooting Guide

The eSIM will activate when you scan the QR code. If you scan the eSIM in Australia it will start the plan – please DO NOT scan the QR code if you do not want the eSIM plan to start.

Our eSIM generally works with no issues, however if you encounter any issues with the eSIM, please check the following:

  1. You must be connected to Wi-Fi when scanning the eSIM
  2. Turn off any other SIM and any VPN (if applicable), your phone also must also not be on airplane mode
  3. Turn data roaming on (Android: select all network)
  4. Ensure mobile data is sourced from our SIM and wait at least 10 minutes for activation – refrain from changing any mobile settings 
  5. APN should be “vmobile.jp” (please enter manually if it is not automatic)
  6. Network operator should be automatically selected but if it isn’t please select manually to Docomo IIJ (it may defaults to Softbank – this won’t work)
  7. Restart your phone (off / on) or turn airplane mode on / off
  8. If you experience drop outs please turn on / off the eSIM line and you may also want to try selecting a different operator manually where applicable
  9. Please check your mobile network settings to make sure the eSIM was installed (occasionally it may looked like the eSIM did not install successfully however it may already be installed on your phone)
  10. Please do not delete the eSIM, if you accidentally deleted the SIM it may take up to 24 hours for us to reset the eSIM.

eSIM QR code along with the instruction will be sent via email instantly (please check your junk/spam email). Please note if you purchase a physical SIM in the same order, the eSIM will need to be sent manually (i.e. NOT instant), we recommend buying the eSIM separately.
