Every eSIM-enabled device carries a small but important identifier known as an EID number. It is a unique code linked to your phone’s embedded SIM chip, allowing mobile networks to recognise and authenticate your device when setting up an eSIM profile.
Without it, activation simply can’t happen. This guide explains what an EID number is, why it is important, and how to find it on both iPhone and Android in a few taps. Before choosing a plan, it helps to compare TravelKon eSIMs so you know what will work with your device.
What an EID Number Means
GSMA uses EID to mean eUICC Identifier, although many consumer guides call it an Embedded Identity Document. Both terms refer to the permanent identifier assigned to the device’s embedded eSIM component.
An EID is a 32-digit identifier and normally remains unchanged when you:
- Install or delete an eSIM profile
- Switch between personal and travel plans
- Change the phone number connected to a plan
- Replace one downloaded profile with another
The EID may change if the embedded eSIM hardware is replaced during a device repair.

How to Find Your EID on Different Devices
iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Scroll to EID.
- Touch and hold the number to copy it.
If the iPhone cannot be opened, check:
- The original retail packaging
- Finder on a connected Mac
- Apple Devices or iTunes on a compatible computer
- The device list in the associated Apple Account
- The information screen shown before initial setup
A visible EID does not confirm that the handset is unlocked. In Settings → General → About, check Carrier Lock. An unlocked Australian iPhone should normally display No SIM restrictions.
Android
Android menu paths vary by manufacturer, carrier and software version. Search Settings for EID when the listed route does not match your phone.
You can also try *#06#:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter *#06#.
- Look for EID.
The code does not place a call. Some phones display only the IMEI, so a missing EID on this screen does not necessarily prove that eSIM is unsupported.
How to Find the EID on Samsung Galaxy
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap Status information.
- Find EID.
- Touch and hold the number to copy it, where supported.
The EID may also appear on the original device box. If it is not shown in Status information, open Settings → Connections → SIM Manager and look for Add eSIM.
Not every Galaxy device within the same series supports eSIM. Confirm the complete model code and regional version before purchasing.
How to Find the EID on Google Pixel
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap SIM status.
- Select the relevant SIM status entry if several appear.
- Find and copy the EID.
If no EID appears, check Settings → Network and internet → SIMs for an option to add or download a SIM.
Other Android Phones
Try:
- Settings → About phone → Status information
- Settings → About device → SIM status
- Settings → Network and internet → SIMs
- Settings → Connections → SIM Manager
Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo and other manufacturers may enable eSIM only on certain regional or carrier versions. Verify the complete model number rather than relying only on the commercial product name.
What About Tablets and Smartwatches?
Cellular tablets and smartwatches can also have an EID. On a cellular iPad, check Settings → General → About. Menu paths vary on other tablets and wearables, so use the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model.
Wi-Fi-only tablets do not have an EID because they cannot install a mobile service.
EID vs. ICCID, IMEI, and Phone Number

| Identifier | What It Identifies | When Support May Need It |
| EID | The embedded eSIM component | Device identification and eSIM-download problems |
| ICCID | One physical SIM or downloaded eSIM profile | Matching a plan to an account or order |
| IMEI | The phone’s cellular equipment | Device checks, registration or blocking |
| Phone number | A calling or messaging service | Calls, SMS and account administration |
One embedded eSIM component can store several profiles. Each separately issued profile has its own ICCID, while the device retains its EID.
Dual-SIM phones may display IMEI 1 and IMEI 2. These identify the phone’s cellular connections, not the installed travel plan.
A data-only travel eSIM can have an ICCID without providing a callable phone number.
Note: Some devices can also display the EID as a QR code, but this is not the activation code supplied with a mobile plan. Ensure you understand what an eSIM QR code is before scanning or sharing either type.
Does an EID Guarantee eSIM Compatibility?
A visible EID confirms that the device contains eSIM hardware. Successful installation still depends on:
- The exact model and regional version
- Carrier or network locks
- Compatibility with the eSIM provider
- Current operating-system software
- Available eSIM storage and active-line capacity
- Workplace device-management restrictions
Use our complete guide to check whether your phone supports eSIM before buying a non-refundable plan.
Why Support May Request an EID
Support may request the EID to:
- Confirm which device is being used
- Investigate a failed profile download
- Diagnose a device or installation error
- Assign a profile directly to the device
- Review a transfer after hardware replacement
- Escalate a case to a network partner
Prepare the EID, exact device model, software version, order number and a screenshot of the error.
Keep the eSIM installed unless support tells you to remove it. Some activation codes can be used only once, so repeatedly deleting the profile or scanning the same code may make recovery harder. Follow our step-by-step guide to install an eSIM on iPhone or Android and complete the setup on your device without confusion.
How to Share an EID Safely
An EID is not a password and cannot ordinarily unlock your phone or account by itself. It remains a permanent device identifier.
Share it only through an official manufacturer, carrier or eSIM-provider support channel. Do not publish it online or enter it into an unknown EID-checking service. Crop unrelated identifiers and personal details from screenshots.
FAQs
Does Every Phone Have an EID?
No. Phones limited to physical SIM cards do not have an EID. A visible EID confirms that eSIM hardware is present, but carrier locks, regional restrictions and provider compatibility may still prevent a particular travel eSIM from working.
Is EID the Same as IMEI?
No. The EID identifies the embedded eSIM component, while the IMEI identifies the phone’s cellular equipment. An eSIM-compatible device normally displays both.
Can an EID Change?
The EID normally remains unchanged when profiles are installed, switched or deleted. It may change if the embedded eSIM hardware is replaced during a device repair or replacement.
Why Is My EID Not Showing?
The device may lack eSIM hardware, use a regional model without eSIM or place the EID in another menu. Search Settings, try *#06#, check the original packaging and confirm the exact model number.
Is It Safe to Share an EID With Support?
Yes, through an official support channel. Treat it as private device information. Do not publish it, enter it into an unknown checking service or share the activation QR code supplied with your eSIM.
